Antique Stepped Barrister’s Bookcase

Antique Stepped Barrister’s Bookcase

A striking three-tier barrister’s bookcase in rich walnut, with the classic “stepped” profile — each tier slightly narrower than the one below, giving the piece a handsome pyramid-like silhouette rather than a flat front.

Each of the three sections lifts independently via its own glazed door, sliding up and back in true barrister style to give easy access to the shelf behind — a practical, space-saving design originally intended for stacking and reconfiguring as a library grew. The warm walnut grain is particularly striking across the stepped sides, with fine reeded detailing to the base section and a shaped plinth base.

A genuinely practical piece of antique furniture, equally suited to books, display items or general storage, and a lovely way to bring real character and craftsmanship into a study, living room or hallway.
